You're Invited

I got to thinking tonight...when was the last time I invited someone to church? It's been awhile. When was the last time YOU invited someone to church? If it's been awhile, then what's holding you back? Are you ashamed of your church? Too busy? Too shy?

What possible reason could we have to not invite someone to come and hear the Good News? Really, there is no good reason. Maybe laziness, selfishness...I don't know...

Help me out here...what do you think? I'd like to hear your opinion on why we are not more inviting.

After all we have the greatest message in the world and we're not willing to share it with others...

What do you think?

Jeff -

For me, there are a few reasons. One, like most people, I am wrapped up in my own self-image. For being a pretty relaxed guy, I still care what people think of me. I don't want to be judged, I don't want people to associate me with another Christian they have encountered that created a bad stereotype for all Christians. Two, I am very reserved with my faith. I don't like to talk to people about my personal life, my personal journey. Excluding the older influences on my life (youth leaders, parents, etc...) there are very few people that I feel comfortable around to talk about my faith with. I can currently think of 1-2 people who are college students who I know I can completely trust, but other than that, there aren't many. To everyone else, I put on a front that I am happy and well. I feel as though to invite someone to church with me, I have to connect on a level with them that is far beyond the level I normally connect at. So in basic terms, I have a very good sense of my comfort zone and I need to expand it a bit.

Jeff, I hope to take your challenge and invite a friend to church on Sunday or my weekly Bible Study. Thanks for the reminder and all that you have done for me the past few years. I know you have great things in store for the youth this year and beyond.
